Structure formation and astrophysical N-body problems
Abstract: The formation of structure in the universe, i.e. of stars, galaxies and their large-scale distribution - the so-called cosmic web - is a fundamental problem of modern astrophysics. The process is complicated owing to the high non-linearity of the process, the absence of simplifying symmetries and the long-range nature of gravity. I will discuss the equation that govern the growth of structure and current numerical approaches to solve them.
