Higher-order temporal integration methods for
PDEs with multiple time scales
Abstract:
This talk will discuss recently developed temporal integration schemes
based on a deferred correction strategy which are designed to provide
higher-order accuracy for partial differential equations with multiple
disparate time scales. These integration schemes allow one in
principle to design methods with arbitrarily high order of accuracy,
while treating different terms in the equation independently and with
differing time steps. Examples demonstrating this approach for
reacting compressible gas dynamics and the motion of flexible
membranes in an incompressible fluid will be presented.
