The numerical solution of large boundary value problems is an important subject in engineering, mathematics and physics. Domain decomposition algorithms parallelize the solution of such problems by breaking up the domain into smaller subdomains which are then assigned to separate processors. For elliptic problems, the solution on any given subdomain is coupled to the solution on the adjacent subdomains via some transmission condition across the "artificial interface". In this talk, we discuss domain decomposition methods that use Robin transmission conditions across the artificial interface. We will show how to define a coarse grid correction and thus obtain an algorithm that scales to very large clusters.
