Numerical Methods
The Numerical Methods research field is composed of two divisions:
The main focus of the Numerical Analysis and Modelling division is research and development in the field of algorithm-oriented numerical analysis with the main emphasis on nonlinear models, in particular differential equation models. The aim is the construction of efficient and reliable algorithms for simulation, identification, and optimization in complex technological problems. In the process, questions of mathematical modeling must often be taken into consideration. The division is subdivided into four research groups:
- Computational Medicine
- Computational Molecular Design
- Computational Nano-Optics
- Computational Systems Biology
The research division Visualization and Data Analysis aims at developing novel and effective methods for visual data analysis. For this we develop and artfully combine algorithms from image and data analysis, geometry processing, computer graphics, and visualization. The division is subdivided into four research groups:
- Visualization Algorithms
- Comparative Visualization
- Visualization Systems
- Medical Planning
Currently we are dealing with applications in biochemistry, biology, pharmacy, medicine, quantum physics, astrophysics, engineering, and environmental sciences. Our developments are based on our software Amira, Lenné3D and Biosphere3D. For presentations of research work performed at ZIB we use the visualization theater Studio da Vinci.
